Local Store. Contrary to its name, it’s not a store but a bar, and a very local one at that. Live local bands, lots of resident partiers, and a laid-back, down-to-earth atmosphere makes this the place to kick back and have fun, especially on weekends. Good prices on drinks, local beer, craft beers, and local Aruban snacks like funchi fries and over a dozen kinds of artisanal chicken wings attract the tourists, too. Palm Beach 13A, Noord 297/586–1414 www.localstorearuba.com.
Fodor’sChoice MooMba Beach Bar. As the central party spot on the busiest part of Palm Beach, this open-air bar is famous for its Sunday-night blowouts with big crowds of locals gathering to dance in the sand to live bands or DJs. The barkeeps are flair and mixology masters, and happy hours are very hot. You’ll find both early and late drink specials every night except Sunday. The attached restaurant is also a wonderful surf-side spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There’s free Wi-Fi. J.E. Irausquin Blvd. 230, Palm Beach Between Holiday Inn and Marriott Surf Club 297/586–5365 www.moombabeach.com.
Fodor’sChoice Pure Beach. South Beach–style cocktails and tapas are served in this bar and restaurant in the Divi Phoenix Aruba Resort. It’s got a cool, hip vibe, offering couches in the sand surf-side, which are lit by tiki torches at night; some kind of live music is often on the menu, too. It’s an ideal place to kick off the night for a sunset happy hour cocktail or snack. Divi Phoenix Aruba Resort, J.E. Irausquin Blvd. 75, Palm Beach 297/586–6606 www.purebeacharuba.com.
Fodor’sChoice Sopranos Piano Bar. With a theme loosely based on the famous HBO series, Sopranos has a fun atmosphere, and live piano nightly encourages the crowd to join in a sing-along. Top-notch barkeeps shake up a big list of creative cocktails, including the famous signature Badabing Martini. An extensive wine and champane list will provide an option for those not obsessed with cocktails. And you can enjoy Cuban cigars on the outdoor terrace. A DJ sometimes plays late into the night on weekends. Arawak Garden Mall, L. G. Smith Blvd. 177, Palm Beach 297/586–8622 www.sopranospianobararuba.com.
